New phone – ID Austria no longer works

Basic steps

  1. If you still have your old phone, do not delete it right away.
  2. Also try logging in via laptop or tablet on the official website.
  3. Check whether you still receive SMS codes on your phone number.
  4. See if you can add your new device in the ID Austria settings.
  5. If you are completely locked out, contact an official service office.

For security reasons, ID Austria is linked to a specific device.
Just installing the app on your new phone is often not enough.

If your old phone still works, the situation is usually easier.
If the old phone was wiped, lost, or broken, it can be more difficult.

Stay calm and first check whether you still have access to your old device or to SMS codes.
Then use the official website to see whether you can add a new device.

Important notes

  • Never share codes or passwords.
  • Do not click links in SMS that create pressure or claim your ID Austria has expired.
  • Official offices do not ask for your password.
